University of Western Brittany

The University of Western Brittany (French Université de Bretagne occidentale, UBO ) is a public university in Brittany in France.

It was founded in 1971 from the University of Rennes out and now has locations in Brest, Quimper, Morlaix, Rennes, Saint- Brieuc and Vannes. At the university study around 20,000 students.

History

From the late 1950s the University of Rennes, opened more locations and facilities in the region. In the 1960s, was then placed with institutes in the fields of law, science, humanities and medicine, the foundation stone for a traditional full university. However, The real trigger was the events of May 1968: The University of Rennes was split into Rennes 1 and Rennes 2, and the University of West Brittany became independent as a university on January 1, 1971.
