Unmunsa

The Unmun Temple ( Kor. 운문사, Hanja云 门寺, Unmunsa, literally " Temple Cloud Gate " ) is a Buddhist temple of the Chan Buddhism practicing Jogye Order ( Jogye -jong ,曹溪 宗) in the southern part of the Taebaek Mountains in the South Korean province of Gyeongsangbuk -do. Here is the largest training center for nuns in the country.

The temple was founded by the monk Sinseung in the 21st year of the reign of King Jinheung (560 CE). Towards the end of the Silla Kingdom was considerably expanded plant " magpies Foothill Temple" ( Taejakgap -sa ,鹊 岬 寺). But Wang Geon changed, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty, in the year 937 the name to Unmunsa. In the 12th century, there were 2000 monks. During the invasion of the Korean peninsula by the Japanese military leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi burned parts of the plant down.

After the end of Japanese colonial rule (1910-1945) here In 1950, the largest training center for Buddhist nuns ( Kor. biguni ) of South Korea. In addition to meditation and the study of classical literature the practical activity plays an important role in the surrounding gardens and fields.
