Urgut is a province immediate city in the Uzbek province of Samarkand at the foot of Zeravshan Mountain Range. Urgut located about 50 km southeast of the provincial capital of Samarkand and about 20 km west of the Uzbek- Tajik border. The city has Urgut (2007) 48 308 inhabitants, the same district, whose main town is Urgut, 350,000.

Urgut is for the Platanenhain choral Chinor famous, where there are over a thousand years old copies.

In Urgut is the largest bazaar of Uzbekistan.

Urgutlik or Urguti represent a subgroup of the Uzbek ethnic group who trace their origins to the city Urgut. About a half a million people counts himself amongst the Urgutlik, for the use of Tajik words is characteristic.
