The URO VAMTAC ( Vehículo de Alta Movilidad táctico ) is an off-road (4x4), lightly armored military vehicle of the Spanish producers UROVESA. More than 2,000 of these, the American HMMWV similar vehicles are used by the Spanish army and in other countries.

History

The URO VAMTAC is produced in series since 1998. It was planned in two versions: T3 ( later referred to as I3) and T5 (later S3). In the first delivery period up to 2005 1200 vehicles have been delivered to the Spanish Army. 60 % of whom were from the later version S3 ( six-cylinder, 138 kW ), the rest I3 ( four-cylinder, 122 kW). In a second step, by 2009, 900 more vehicles, all delivered by type S3. Approximately 25 % of the vehicles from the first delivery period have now been retrofitted with reinforced armor

Properties

The URO VAMTAC is equipped with a four-wheel drive. Is powered by the S3 version of a M16 Monoblock turbo diesel ( inline six- cylinder, 3.2 L displacement, 135 kW) of Steyr Motors; in the I3 - vehicles, it is a four cylinder with 85 kW.

There is the VAMTAC in several versions; In principle, these are as a command vehicle, as a pickup or chassis cab.

The configurations used sin the following:

  • Ambulance with room for two stretchers.
  • Antitank equipment with BGM -71 TOW or MILAN.
  • Antiaircraft equipment with Mistral.
  • Command and communication vehicle.
