Urriðafoss

The Urriðafoss is the most water-rich waterfall of Iceland. The river Þjórsá crashes with 360 m³ / s of water at about 40 m width 6 m in depth. First plunge large parts of the current in a column against a rock in the middle of the river, but the main stream breaks at a different location by. In the winter, up to 20 m can form thick sheets of ice.

The waterfall is after a little turn on the ring road in southern Iceland, about 16 kilometers east of the town of Selfoss. Despite its size, it is relatively unknown and rarely finds mention.

It is planned to build a hydroelectric plant below the waterfall. This could mean the end of this waterfall under certain circumstances.
