Urs Fischer

Urs Fischer ( born 2 May 1973 in Zurich ) is a Swiss artist living in New York.

Work

Fischer studied photography at the School of Design in Zurich. He was awarded the 1995 and 1999 Federal Price for independent artists. In 1997 he received a scholarship from the Kiefer Hablitzel Foundation.

Fischer's work has been shown already in numerous solo exhibitions, such as the Kunsthaus Glarus 2000, the Kunsthaus in Zurich, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Whitney Biennial 2006.

2009 his first solo exhibition in the U.S. at the New Museum was opened in New York. The preparation of the exhibition are at the heart of the Swiss Urs Fischer documentary by Iwan Schumacher, published in 2010.
