Ursicinus of Saint-Ursanne

Ursicinus († 610-630 in Saint- Ursanne, Canton of Jura, Switzerland ) was a hermit in the 7th century and is a saint. He is also known under the names of shapes and St. Ursinus original seat.

According to legend Ursicinus was a monk and pupil of Columban in Luxeuil monastery and retired around the year 610 in a hermitage in the valley of the Doubs back. Whether he was actually a student of Columba, however, can not be historically proven because Ursicinus is not mentioned in the Vita of Saint Columba life. Abbot Germanus of Moutier- Grandval built in his honor at Grandval / Moutier (before 675) a church. Thus Ursicinus must already have been worshiped in the 7th century.

Above his grave on the banks of the Doubs, the monastery and the town of Saint- Ursanne emerged.

His feast day is July 24th or December 20th.
