US Vibonese Calcio

The Unione Sportiva Calcio Vibonese is an Italian football club based in Vibo Valentia in Calabria. The club was founded in 1928.

The greatest success had Vibonese with the rise in the C2 series in 2005/06. In the season 1996/97 they won the Regional Italian Cup and the 1998 Regional Italian Super Cup. Long time they were active under the name SS Nuova Vibonese. Currently they play in Lega Pro Seconda Divisione, the fourth- highest division in the Italian football.

Club history

The club was formed from the merger of the two clubs Ischia Monteleone and Luigi Razza. They changed their name for a short time in Diavoli Rossi Vibo, and then again in U.S. Vibonese. In the beginning they played only in unofficial games and tournaments. In 1945/46, they took for the first time in an official tournament. The first promotion to the club in the season 1950 /51. In 1957/58 they reached the first place and thus the rise in the IV series, the then fourth- highest division of Italian football. The association Vibonese U.S. went bankrupt in 1960 year and was re-established as Gruppo Sportivo Hipponion, in 1961 they changed the name to the Salesian Oratory Vibo. In the season 1963/64, again a change in the association's name, this time to SS Nuova Vibonese. Between 1973 and 1978 they played in Serie D, from which one. Rose again in 1998 (then CND) After the 2003/ 04 season the club got back its old name Unione Sportiva Vibonese. Since 2006, they play in the fourth- highest division in Italy.
