Castle Useldingen

Useldingen Castle is a ruined medieval hilltop castle on a hill above the Attert in the center of the Luxembourg community Useldingen.

History

The construction of the castle Useldingen is associated with the reign of Useldingen, created in 1100 by inheritance. After the Lords of Useldingen 1415 Jean de Rodemacher was by marriage to Irmgard de Boulay owner of the castle.

1479 Emperor Maximilian I confiscated the property and gave it into the custody of Margrave Christoph I of Baden. In the Burgundian Wars castle and chapel were severely damaged. 1674 inherited Wilhelm of Nassau- Vianden castle and sold it to Franz Sebastian Bauer from Everlange. The plant fell further, eventually the castle chapel was demolished in 1903.

1924 acquired originating from Useldingen and emigrated to the United States Francis Kuhn -Wolff ruin. After securing the walls and the keep the family built in 1934 over the ruins of a modern villa, which is now used as a town hall.
