The USNS Catawba (T- ATF -168 ) is a tug of the United States Navy and is part of the Powhatan class. It is used since 1980 in the U.S. Navy.
History
The ship was laid on 14 December 1977 at the Marinette Marine Shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin on Kiel. The launch took place on 22 September 1979, after further outfitting the Catawba was passed on 28 May 1980, the Military Sealift Command of the U.S. Navy.
It was originally assigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet and currently belongs to the Military Sealift Command (MSC ) Pacific Support Force and is used worldwide.
On 29 October 2000, the Catawba dragged the badly damaged USS Cole in the port of Aden in order to maneuver the lift ship Blue Marlin. 2009 supplied the tractor the freighter Faina with fuel and food after it had been several months in the hands of Somali pirates.
