The USS Alaska (SSBN-732) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Ohio - class. As a submarine ballistic missile ( SSBN ) carry 24 intercontinental ballistic missiles of the type Trident.

History

SSBN -732 was given in 1978 to General Dynamics Electric Boat Shipyard Group company in order and placed in March 1983 at EB in Groton, Connecticut on Kiel. The construction lasted less than two years, in January 1985 ran the boat batch and was baptized in the name of Alaska. Another year later it was put into service the submarine.

First home port of the submarine was Bangor, Washington, and from there went the submarine 20 years patrols to nuclear deterrence. By 2009, the Alaska was overhauled for two years in Norfolk, Virginia, after she was stationed in Kings Bay, Georgia.
