The USS Annapolis (SSN -760 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles- class. It was named after the city of Annapolis, Maryland, where the United States Naval Academy is located.

History

The contract for the submarine was awarded in 1986 at Electric Boat. Where the keel was laid in June 1988, the construction lasted almost three years. After the launch on 18 May 1991, the final finish followed at the pier and sea trials, on 11 April 1992, Annapolis was officially put into service.

The end of 1993, the first betting journey began in the North Atlantic. A year later began a six-month laying with USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN -69) to the Mediterranean Sea, the Naval Expeditionary Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation earned the submarine. 1997/1998 the Annapolis sailed as part of the battle group led by the USS George Washington ( CVN -73) in the Persian Gulf, where they supported Operation Southern Watch and BGM -109 Tomahawk fired at targets in Iraq.

2003 the submarine docked in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to undergo an overhaul. 2005 was followed by another trip to the Persian Gulf, then in 2006 to the Mediterranean, where the Annapolis broke in, among others, in Crete harbor. In 2007, the submarine was involved, among other things with the HSV -2 Swift at the Africa Partnership Station, a mission to be involved in numerous African navies. In 2009, the Annapolis to exercise ICEX part under the Arctic ice cap. On March 24, the submarine surfaced through the meter thick Arctic ice cover throughout.
