The Bonhomme Richard ( LHD -6) is an amphibious assault ship for amphibious warfare of the United States Navy Wasp class. She travels regularly as part of an American Expeditionary Strike Group, a rapid reaction force on landing operations of the lake.

The name of the ship has a long tradition in the U.S. Navy since 1779, Louis XVI. the 13 colonies represented a frigate built in 1765 and named Duc de Duras available. Their commander John Paul Jones, one of the first commander of the U.S. Navy, the ship then renamed it the USS Bonhomme Richard. Reason was the written work of the then ambassador in Paris, Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanack, which was published in France under the title Les Maximes du Bonhomme Richard. The current ship is the fourth of that name.

History

The Bonhomme Richard was from Ingalls Shipbuilding of Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in Pascagoula, Mississippi built. The keel-laying ceremony was on 18 April 1995 and the launch took place on 14 March 1997. The Bonhomme Richard was put into service in August 1998. Her home port is San Diego, California.

In the summer of 2010, the Bonhomme Richard took part in the multinational exercise RIMPAC. At the end of the ship underwent an overhaul at NASSCO in San Diego, which lasted until April 2011. In August 2011, she participated in the Seattle Seafair.
