USS Coco (SP-110)

The USS Coco (SP -110 ) was an armed motorboat that was used from 1917 to 1919 as a patrol boat of the United States Navy. The boat was about 11 meters long and reached a speed of 26 knots (48 km / h). 1919 was sunk during the Florida Keys hurricane.

History

The motorboat Coco in 1917, built as a civilian motorboat of the Albany Boat Corporation in Watervliet, New York. The U.S. Navy acquired Coco by its owner, W. J. Matheson in Coconut Grove, Florida, on June 23, 1917 for use as a patrol boat during World War II. She was born on July 23, 1917 put into service as USS Coco (SP -110 ) ( According to the entry in the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships () it has not been officially put into service, other sources indicate this ). The boat was assigned to the 7th Naval District and was used accordingly in the waters of Florida for the rest of the war and a few months beyond.

On June 23, 1919 Coco was removed from the Naval Vessel Register and the boat was sold on August 5 this year. Before it could be the new owner passed, but it was sunk during the Florida Keys hurricane from 9 to 10 September of the year, together with some further Patrouiillenbooten while in North Beach Basin in Key West, Florida, anchored.
