The USS Connole ( DE/FF-1056 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1969 to 1992 in service with the United States Navy from 1995 to 2003 in the service of the Greek Navy. She was by Commander David R. Connole (* September 8, 1912, † March 1945 ), commander of the sunken probably in March 1945 off the Japanese coast submarine USS Trigger, named.

History

The Connole was laid on March 23, 1967 at Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans, Louisiana on Kiel. The launch took place on July 20, 1968, the ship in the Navy was put into service on 30 August 1969.

The frigate was the U.S. Atlantic Fleet assigned to her home port was Newport, Rhode Iceland. It operated mostly in the Atlantic and in the Mediterranean. On August 30, 1992, the ship was decommissioned, on 15 January 1995, it was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register.

HS Epirus (F -456 )

The frigate was handed over to Greece, where she was employed from 1995 to 2003 as Epirus (F- 456). In 2006, she was, as a target ship from one AGM -119 Penguin MK 2 MOD 7 missile, which was fired from a S -70B -6 Aegean Hawk and received several hits of the 5 " gun of the Greek frigate HS Psara (F -454 ) whereupon the Epirus heeled to starboard and sank.
