The USS Dayton (CL -105 ) was a light cruiser of the Cleveland class of the United States Navy. She was the last ship of her class of ship. The ship was named after the city of Dayton in Ohio.

History

The ship was launched on March 19, 1944 at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation in Camden from the stack. Godmother was Mrs. Rueger. The commissioning took place on January 7, 1945 by Captain PW Steinhagen.

After training, the team accompanied her on July 1945, the last attacks on the Japanese coast by fast carrier groups and also even shelled the coast.

After the Second World War, it was the first Atlantic Fleet allocated and later used in the Mediterranean, such as the flagship of the Commander- Mediterranean COMNAVMED. 1947 gave the ship at Trieste supply of allied forces. The USS Dayton was filed on March 1, 1949 from service, remained until its cancellation on September 1, 1961 at the register of ships and in 1962 sold for scrapping.

For their participation in operations in the Second World War, the USS Dayton was awarded a Service Star.
