The USS George HW Bush ( CVN -77 ) is an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy and is a member of the Nimitz class. As the last carrier of the class, Bush is strongly modified compared to her sister ships and represents a technological shift towards the subsequent Gerald R. Ford class dar.
Namesake is the 41th President of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush.
Technology
The length of the George HW Bush is as with any carrier of the Nimitz - class 317 meters at the waterline and 333 m above everything, the width of 40.84 meters to the hull. Fully loaded the ship displaces approximately 97,000 tons standard. Work about 5680 people, of whom about 3,200 crew members and 2480 members of the squadron on the ship. The bus can accommodate 85 aircraft.
On the bus numerous innovations will be tested over the previous ships of the Nimitz class. The deck edges were rounded up to the signal reduction, the island and the antennas were covered. At the same time, the internal structure of the island was modernized in order to improve access to the flight deck. The structure of the hangers below deck is optimized to allow efficient work. The entire electrical system is here divided into separate protected areas in order to limit losses on small sections can. In many systems, the level of automation is increased also.
Like the bulbous bow, the reduction of the island was first introduced already on the previous USS Ronald Reagan (CVN -76) and maintained at Bush.
History
CVN -77 was ordered in 2001, the contract was awarded as for all holders of class at Newport News Shipbuilding ( NNS ). There, the keel for the carrier was laid on 19 May 2003, after more than three years of construction the ship was launched and was baptized. Godmother was George HW Bush's daughter Dorothy Bush Koch. The Navy wanted to take over the ship in April 2008 and officially put into service on 10 January 2009.
However, in early 2008 it became apparent that NNS lagged behind schedule; a delivery to the Navy, as contractually agreed, in April of the year was so, despite numerous overtime of shipyard workers, as impossible as the then date set on November 11. The completion should now take place in mid-March 2009. Nevertheless, Navy shipyard and stopped at the date of the entry into established on January 10, 2009, as George HW Bush's son George W. Bush was still acting president at that time. Thereafter, the carrier still needed about a month construction period. This provides the Navy a ship into service before it was passed the usual tests. This only began in February, April, the ship should be handed over to the Navy. This was further delayed after contamination by metal splinters and rubbery seal parts had been found in the emergency diesel generators. It was only on 11 May, the Navy took off the warship.
On 19 May 2009 the first flight deck operations took place. The first landing and the first start resulted in an F/A-18F Super Hornet Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX ) 23 by .. On June 19, the Bush returned to her Shipyard back to leave it there fix minor problems. On 28 January 2010, she left the shipyard and began further testing.
The George HW Bush is deployed as a squadron aboard since 2010 in the Naval Station Norfolk with Carrier Air Wing Eight. At its first operational voyage stabbed the carrier together with his comrades on May 11, 2011 in Lake, which use leads to the Mediterranean and into the Indian Ocean.
On 4 March 2014, the George HW Bush of Sevastopol only about an hour's flight from the port of Piraeus in Greece NATO Partners was launched in the wake of Krimkrise 2014.
