The USS Gray ( DE/FF-1054 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1970 to 1991 in service with the United States Navy. She was named after Sergeant Ross Franklin Gray ( * August 1, 1920; † February 27, 1945 ), a soldier of the United States Marine Corps, who had taken a heavily fortified Japanese positions on Iwo Jima alone. For his heroism, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor
History
The Gray was laid on November 19, 1966 at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle, Washington on Kiel. The launch took place on 3 November 1967 and commissioned into the Navy on 4 April 1970.
The ship was assigned to the Pacific Fleet, the home port was San Francisco.
On 19 September 1991, the frigate was decommissioned, it still remained until January 11, 1995 in the register of ships of the Navy. Your scrapping was completed in 2001.
