USS Iowa

Four ships of the United States Navy have been named after the state of Iowa on the name USS Iowa:

• The first Iowa was a monitor that was never put into service
• USS Iowa ( BB -4 ), the second Iowa, was a battleship during the Spanish- American War.
• USS Iowa ( BB -53 ), the third Iowa was a battleship that has been terminated after the completion of the Washington Naval contracts during construction.
• USS Iowa ( BB -61 ), the fourth Iowa was the lead ship of the Iowa class during and after the Second World War.
