The USS Kirk ( DE/FF-1087 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1972 to 1993 in service with the United States Navy. The ship was named after Admiral Alan G. Kirk ( born October 30, 1888 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † October 15, 1963 ), who was responsible for the supply of American troops in the European theater in World War II.
History
The Kirk was laid on December 4, 1970 at Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans, Louisiana on Kiel. The launch took place on 25 September 1971 was commissioned into the Navy on 9 September 1972.
The ship was used in the Pacific Fleet homeport was Long Beach, California.
In 1975, the Kirk was involved in the evacuation of Saigon.
On 6 August 1993, the frigate was decommissioned, it still remained until January 11, 1995 in the register of ships of the Navy. On the day their decommissioning the ship was leased to Taiwan, where she was placed as Fen Yang (FF -934 ) in service. Taiwan acquired the ship on 29 September 1999 completely and uses it to this day.
