The USS Minneapolis -Saint Paul ( SSN -708 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles- class. It was named after the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota, which together form the Metropolitan Region of Minneapolis -Saint Paul.

History

SSN -708 was given in 1973 in order and placed in early 1981 at Electric Boat in Kiel. The launch of the Penny Durenberger ( the wife of Senator David Durenberger ) baptized Minneapolis -Saint Paul was held in March 1983, the official commissioning ceremony at the Navy a year later.

1990/91 took the Minneapolis -Saint Paul in operations Desert Shield and Desert stream part, she wore the first cruise missile BGM -109 Tomahawk, which were specifically intended for targets in Iraq. 1992, immediately after followed a dockyard time.

On December 29, 2006, two sailors died when the boat in Plymouth, England while working on the outer shell took place, began the descent. The commander, Commander Edwin Ruff, was relieved of his command in early 2007 due to this incident and transferred to an outpost on land.

On 28 August 2008, the Minneapolis -Saint Paul was placed in the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard from service. It is demolished in the Ship- Submarine Recycling Program.
