The USS Moinester ( DE/FF-1097 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1974 to 1994 in service with the United States Navy. It was named after Lieutenant Robert W. Moinester ( born July 15, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York, † January 31, 1968 in Hue, Vietnam ), who fell during the initial phase of the Battle of Hue.

History

The Moinester was laid on August 25, 1972 at Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans, Louisiana on Kiel. The launch took place on 12 May 1973 after it was christened by the widow of the patron saint. Commissioned into the Navy took place on 2 November 1974.

The ship was used in the Atlantic Fleet, the home port was Norfolk. End of the eighties it was assigned to the Naval Reserve Fleet.

On 28 July 1994, the frigate was decommissioned, they remained until the 1st of November 1995 with a register of ships the Navy. On the day of her decommissioning she was leased to Egypt, where it was placed as Rashid (F -966 ) in service. The final takeover by the Egyptian navy was on 25 March 1998
