The USS Olympia ( SSN -717 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles- class.

History

The Olympics in 1977 at Newport News Shipbuilding and commissioned in 1981 placed on the company's yard in Newport News, Virginia on Kiel. Launching and naming ceremony took place in 1983, named after the town of Olympia in Washington. The submarine was placed at the end of 1984 the United States Navy in service and commanded by Commander James Horten.

The Olympic was involved in 2001/2002 in Operation Enduring Freedom, the harbor left shortly after the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001. 2004, the Olympia part in the exercise RIMPAC 2005 moved the boat in the Western Pacific, to work there as part of the Fighter Group of the USS Carl Vinson to drive (CVN -70).
