The USS Simpson ( FFG- 56) is a frigate of the Oliver Hazard Perry class.
History
The keel laying named after Rear Admiral Rodger W. Simpson frigate took place on February 27, 1984 held at Bath Iron Works, the ship was launched on August 31, 1984. Went into service on November 9, 1985.
1988, Simpson was involved in Operation Praying Mantis, in which the United States Navy, the Iranian navy hard hit. The frigate Sahand and the missile speedboat Joshan were sunk and the frigate Sabalan severely damaged. During the battle, the Simpson was attacked with an AGM -84 Harpoon and sank then the attacker, the Joshan.
During Operation Desert Storm was the Simpson as an escort for the aircraft carrier USS America (CV -66), just as in 1993 during Operation Deny Flight.
1994 drove the Simpson during Operation Support Democracy and Operation Able Manner off Haiti in 1998 with the USS John C. Stennis (CVN -74 ) led them through exercises off Puerto Rico.
2002 Simpson of the active reserve fleet was allocated. In this addition to the greatly reduced active crew serves primarily reserve personnel on the frigate.
2010, Simpson was opened at Kiel Week for the first time in 20 years the public visitor traffic.
