The USS Springflied (SSN -761 ) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Los Angeles- class. It was named after the two cities Springfield in Illinois and Massachusetts.

History

SSN -761 was commissioned in 1986. The construction took place at Electric Boat instead, keel laying was on 29 January 1990. After two years in dry dock and another year end equipment at the pier, the Springfield was officially put into service in early 1993.

By 2004, the Springfield relocated to a total of six half -year operations in the Atlantic and European waters. Middle of an overhaul and modernization was then started. This also took place in the yard of EB. 2008 moved the boat as an escort of the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN -71) towards the Mediterranean.
