The USS Tennessee (SSBN-734) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Ohio - class. As a submarine ballistic missile ( SSBN ) carry 24 intercontinental ballistic missiles.

History

The construction of the submarine was approved in early 1982. The SSBN -734 has been paid to the Group for General Dynamics Electric Boat shipyard belonging in Groton, Connecticut in June 1986 in Kiel. After only six months in dry dock SSBN -734 was launched and christened by Mrs. Landess Kelso to the U.S. state of Tennessee. Two years later, in late 1988, was the official incorporation into the fleet of the U.S. Navy.

As a ninth boat in its class, the Tennessee was first fitted away from the stack for wearing the new UGM - 133A Trident II. 2009 started the boat an overhaul in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, which lasted until the end of July 2011. In addition to maintenance and modernization work and the reactor was filled with the new fuel, which is to the Tennessee driving another 25 years.
