The USS Theodore Roosevelt ( CVN -71) is the fourth aircraft carrier of the Nimitz class of United States Navy. It is named after U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
The ship was laid on 31 October 1981 at the shipyard Newport News Shipbuilding keel. The naming ceremony took place in October 1984 and the Theodore Roosevelt was officially put into service on 25 October 1986.
1996 collided Theodore Roosevelt during a training exercise with the USS Leyte Gulf (CG -55 ), as the Roosevelt suddenly reduced their pace. In this case, the tail of the aircraft carrier and the bow of the cruiser was heavily damaged, the cost of repairs amounted to 16 million dollars.
From autumn 2009, the Roosevelt is a Refueling Complex Overhaul ( RCOH ) in their shipyard. Here, the nuclear reactor was refilled, renews the avionics and carried out maintenance work on and in the fuselage. The cost of the dockyard period, which lasted until 2013, amounted to nearly $ 2.5 billion. On 25 August 2013, the aircraft carrier left after almost exactly 4 years, the shipyard.
