USS Tinosa (SSN-606)

The USS Tinosa (SSN -606 ) was a nuclear submarine Thresher class of the United States Navy.

History

The end of 1958 the contract to build the Tinosa at the Portsmouth Navy Yard was assigned, where almost one year later, the keel of the boat was laid. After a construction period of just over two years, the boat was launched, in November 1964, the entry into service. The long waiting time can be explained by the sinking of the USS Thresher (SSN -593 ) in April 1963. In addition, the damage had to be repaired after the Tinosa was in June 1963 collided in the harbor below dew with the USS John Adams ( SSBN- 620).

The first big ride of the Tinosa began after the first test runs and led the boat from June 1966 according to Faslane, Scotland and the port in the Caribbean. 1967 spent the nuclear submarine with test drives in the Caribbean. On 15 July 1991, the Tinosa was disabled and then officially decommissioned in early 1992. By mid- 1992, the U- boat in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard was stopped at the local Ship - Submarine Recycling Program.
