The USS Valdez ( DE/FF-1096 ) was a frigate of the Knox class. She stood from 1974 to 1991 in service with the United States Navy. Was named the ship after Phil Isadore Valdez ( * April 13, 1946; † January 29, 1967 ), a Navy medic who was shot during a skirmish use in the rescue of two wounded Marines by snipers.

History

The Valdez was laid on June 30, 1972 at Avondale Shipyards in New Orleans, Louisiana on Kiel. The launch took place on 24 March 1973 was commissioned into the Navy on 27 July 1974.

The ship was used in the Atlantic Fleet, the home port was Charleston, South Carolina. It operated mostly in the Atlantic, the North and in the Mediterranean. During their period of use the Valdez among other Bremerhaven and Kiel visited.

On 16 December 1991, the frigate was decommissioned, it still remained until January 11, 1995 in the register of ships of the Navy. After its cancellation, she was sold on 29 April 1998 in Taiwan, where she arrived after extensive renovations in Charleston on 4 October 1999. On October 18, the ship was put into service as YI YANG. It still stands today in active service with the Taiwanese Navy.
