The USS West Virginia (SSBN-736) is a nuclear submarine of the United States Navy and is part of the Ohio - class. As Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear she leads with 24 ICBMs.

History

The West Virginia in 1983, where the company General Dynamics in order and laid in October 1987 at belonging to DG shipyard of Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut on Kiel. After two years of construction was completed, SSBN -736 was launched from the dock and christened by Mrs. Robert C. Byrd. Another year later, after the final finishing and the shipyard sea trials, in October 1990, the West Virginia was transferred to the fleet of the U.S. Navy.

Home port was from the beginning of the period of service to the location on the Atlantic coast Kings Bay, Georgia.

Early 2011, the West Virginia is overtaken at halftime of their service in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. It is padded including the reactor core with a new nuclear fuel.
