Utricularia delphinioides

Utricularia delphinioides is a species in the genus of the water hoses ( Utricularia ) in the section Oligocista.

Description

Vegetative habit

Utricularia delphinioides is probably a one-year, terrestrial growing plant. Like all water hoses it is rootless. From the formulation of the flower stalk to pull numerous filiform, about 1 cm long and 0.3 millimeters to 0.1 millimeters in thickness tapering rhizoids, which are often branched papillae. The numerous capillary stolons are branched, several centimeters long and about 0.2 mm thick, the internodes are 3-5 millimeters long.

Music / traps

The standing in a rosette or individually leaves grow upright from the nodes of the stolons. They are short stalked, narrow - linear with a rounded tip, between 0.5 and 1 mm wide and 1 to 2.5 inches long, at the height they are missing.

The numerous round traps are 1 to 2 millimeters long, short stalks and are found on leaves and stolons. The opening is horizontal, in front of her are two bent-back, relatively long capillary appendages that are occupied inside with forked hairs. The number of traps decreases considerably during flowering.

Flower

The single, upright inflorescence reaches a height between 4 and 60 inches. The hairless, cylindrical pedicel is open 1 to 2 millimeters thick and with numerous scale leaves, which are similar to bracts. The latter are at the bottom of the flower stems, are broadly ovate with blunt tip and 2.5 to 6 millimeters long. The bracts are 2-3 mm long, but considerably narrower than the bracteoles ( up to 0.5 mm wide ), linear and pointed at the far end.

The ( 1) 7-15 (20 ) fragrant flowers are in the form of a tightly stuffed grape on upright, thin, (1 -) 4-6 (-12 ) mm long pedicles. The two unequal shaped sepals are 6-9 mm long, narrowly ovoid and flattened at the base. The upper sepal is pointed, the lower notched slightly shorter and barely visible at the top. The two petals are deep blue (often with a metallic sheen ) long, blue violet or purple and together 1.2 to 2.5 centimeters. Above (the " upper lip " ) is slightly smaller than the bottom, from 0.5 to 1.2 centimeters wide, and on the basis of the approximately rectangular tab circular. The lower petal (the " lower lip " ) is helmet-shaped round and thickened at the base. The commended shaped, pointed spur is 4-6 mm long, slightly curved and has downward from under the lower lip.

Fruit and seeds

The 3 to 4 millimeters long, elliptical capsules of the length gradually opening up to give the broad ovoid, about 0.3 mm long seeds freely.

Distribution and habitat

Utricularia delphinioides is native to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam at altitudes 0-1300 m. It settles wet, open sites with acidic soils between grasses in pine forests or on rocks, but is also found in rice fields.

System

The delphinioides var minor described as Utricularia, endemic in Thailand dwarf form of the species has been discarded by Taylor. Parnell, however, refers to results of measurements that could justify classification as a separate taxon.
