Vaal Dam

The Vaal Dam is a lake in South Africa in the Gauteng Province in Deneysville. It is located about 70 kilometers south-east of Johannesburg and about 20 kilometers south-east of Vereeniging. The reservoir is the largest area of ​​lake in South Africa. It dams the waters of the Vaal and the Wilge River - water is also part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project specifically directed to him and its tributaries.

Its construction began in the early 1930s and was completed in 1938.

The reservoir is used to supply water to the Gauteng Province and adjacent areas. He is also the largest water sports area in the South African inland. On its banks are increasingly developing settlements.
