Václav Dobruský

Václav Dobruský ( Bulgarian Вацлав Добруски; born August 11, 1858 in Heřmanův Městec, † December 26, 1916 in Prague) was a Czech secondary school teacher, archaeologist and numismatist. He is considered one of the founders of archeology in Bulgaria.

Dobruský studied classical philology at the University of Prague. From 1880 to 1886 he worked as a teacher in Plovdiv. During this time his interest in the archeology of Bulgaria began. From 1886 to 1893 he taught Latin at the Higher School for Boys in Sofia. Since 1891 he has taught at the University of Sofia. From 1893 to 1910 he was the first director of the National Museum in Sofia. He conducted excavations in Ognyanovo (1904 ), Oescus ( 1904-1905 ), Glava Panega (1905 ), and Nicopolis ad Istrum ( 1906-1909 ).

In 1910 he returned to Prague, where he taught from 1912 to 1914 antique numismatics at the university. From 1914 until his death he was head of the library of the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences.
