Vadans (Jura)

Vadans is a commune with 252 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Jura department in the Franche -Comté; it belongs to the district of Lons -le- Saunier and the canton of Arbois.

On a rock above the village, the Château de Vadans, which was in 1638 besieged and burned by the French. From him only Donjon remained.

History

Vadans, the Gallo-Roman " Valduacum " came in 1160 in the possession of the Counts of Pfirt who acquired it by Frederick Barbarossa, after they had lost Amance. As the owner of the castle like used these to supply its subsidiaries, Vadans never stayed long in one family: the Earl of Pfirt followed the Count of Mâcon and Vienne, the Lords of Salins, the Vadans turn to the Lords of Vergy inherited. Of the Vergy Vadans arrived in the 14th century to the House of Poitiers - Valentinois, for which the rule Vadans was eventually elevated to the barony.
