Vadim Perelman

Vadim Perelman (Ukrainian: Вадим Перельман; * 1963 in Kiev ) is a Ukrainian- American filmmaker.

Life and career

Perelman was born as the only child of a Jewish couple in Kiev. When he was nine years old, his father died in an accident. To escape the confines of the Soviet regime, his mother moved with him to Western Europe. After some years in Vienna and Rome, lived in the mother and son on the poverty line, they eventually found in Canada a livelihood. Perelmann studied after school career at the University of Alberta first several natural sciences until turning to film studies. At Ryerson University, he studied for two years at the School of Image Arts in Toronto, and then founded his own production company for commercials and music videos. The breakthrough in this area, he succeeded in Los Angeles, where he shot TV spots for several internationally known brands. In addition, he has produced several music videos. His video for Kelly Clarkson's Because of you received an MTV Video Music Award.

Beginning of the new millennium Perelman realized the film adaptation of the novel House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, whose film rights he had already secured years earlier. Perelmann, who produced the independent film itself and the screenplay co-wrote and directed, was put on the project well-known actors such as Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly, the Iranian actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, as well as the composer James Horner. The film was released in 2003 in theaters and received three Oscar nominations in addition to several other nominations and awards for lead performances, the adapted screenplay, film music and the Director. His second film, the thriller The Life Before Her Eyes, appeared in 2007. It was again a literary adaptation after presentation of a novel by Laura Kasischke. The main roles Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood are seen.
