Vaišvilkas

Vaišelga (also: Vojselk, Vaisvilkas ) (? *, † December 9, 1268 ) was the son of Mindaugas Grand Duke of Lithuania between 1264 and his abdication 1267th

He was an Orthodox monk who had to take power because of the murder of his father Mindaugas. Thanks to the marriage of his sister with the Galician prince Švarno ( 1255 ) he had the backing to take over his father's throne. His cousin and opponent Treniota was assassinated during spring 1264. His other opponent, Daumantas († 1299 ) was driven out in 1265 to Pskov.

Then Vaisalga came back in 1267 in favor of the princes Švarno and went back to the monastery. There he was murdered shortly thereafter, probably at the instigation of Švarnos brother Lev († 1301). Švarno died 1269/70 also and so Traidenis was (also: Trojden, † around 1282) for a decade, the new Grand Duke of Lithuania.
