Val di Noto

The Val di Noto is a historic administrative unit in southeastern Sicily.

The term does not it with information about the Italian word valle ( valley ), which is often abbreviated as Val, return it to the name Vallo, which is an administrative unit from the time of the Arab occupation of Sicily. At that time Sicily was divided into three administrative units Val di Mazara, Val Demone and Val di Noto. This province division persisted until 1818, when a new classification was carried out in seven provinces.

The Val di Noto extended over the territory of the modern provinces of Ragusa and Syracuse, and a part of the province of Catania. The western boundary was the river Himera the Meridional.

Today, the Val di Noto is known mainly through the UNESCO World Heritage of Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto.
