The Val Veny (also Val Veny ) is an alpine valley in the Italian region of Valle d'Aosta. It is located southwest of Courmayeur.

Geography

The Val Veny limits the eastern Mont- Blanc massif to the south. It is overlooked by the Italian- French border ridge up to 2500 meters. To the south ( orographic right) rise gentler partly wooded slopes. Its origin takes the Val Veny below the Col de la Seigne ( 2512 m), straddling the French-Italian border. It has a length of about eleven kilometers and ends at Entrèves, two kilometers north of Courmayeur.

The U-shaped valley was largely shaped by the glaciers Ghiacciaio del Miage and Ghiacciaio del Brenva. The valley is also subject to dramatic changes now.

The geography of the valley is roughly divided into three parts:

  • From the end of the valley at the Col de la Seigne to Miage the valley runs parallel to the Mont- Blanc massif.
  • The level plan Vény: the valley is filled with river gravel and partly marshy.
  • The valley is dominated by the Mont Blanc and was formed from Brenva glacier.

In the Val Veny the Bach Dora di Veny, which is essentially the Ghiacciaio del Miage takes its origin and is fed by other glaciers in the southern slopes of Mont Blanc mountain range flows. In the Dora di Veny Entrèves combined with the Dora di Ferret from the Val Ferret to the Dora Baltea.

In the northeastern extension of the valley is initially the Italian Val Ferret and beyond the main Alpine ridge from the Col du Ferret in Switzerland the same Val Ferret, which also lies at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif.

Alpinism

The Val Veny is the starting point of the Italian normal route on Mont Blanc. This path leads over the Miage Glacier to the Rifugio Francesco Gonella.
