Val Vignun

The Val Vignun is an alpine valley in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It is in addition to the San Bernardino Pass a transition from Misox the Rheinwald dar.

The Val Vignun leads from San Bernardino to the northeast in the Val Curciusa, a tributary of the Rhine forest. It is about 5 kilometers long and flows through the Ri de Fontanalba that are combined at San Bernardino with the Moësa.

A well-marked mountain trail leads from the village of San Bernardino in several steps to the Alpine hut Cassina de Vignun ( 2,115 m), where the actual high valley begins. The valley rises evenly on to the pass Strec de Vignun ( 2'373 m), where it merges into the Val Curciusa. About the Strec de Vignun runs the European Watershed.

In the middle of the valley rises at an altitude of 2,300 m between two flood plains of the mighty, rocky hills of the Motta de Caslasc. On the broad rocky knoll with an extension of approximately 100 to 60 meters can be found on the northern and southern edge of the plateau terraces that were probably created artificially. A feudal castle is ruled out due to the altitude. Presumably there is a high alpine village of indefinite time with wehrhaftem character and / or a space flight. Remains of walls are not discernible.

North of the valley lies the Piz Uccello, which can be reached from Val Vignun a marked footpath. In the south of Piz de la Lumbreida is. The valley is apart from the alpine hut remained completely unaffected. Because of its special beauty, the area of the San Bernardino Pass and Val Vignun is classified as a landscape of national importance.
