Valdemar Christian of Schleswig-Holstein

Waldemar Christian ( born June 26, 1622 at Frederiksborg Castle, † February 26, 1656 in Lubin) was a Danish Count of Schleswig and Holstein. He was the son of the Danish King Christian IV (1577-1648) and his morganatic wife Kirsten Munk ( 1598-1658 ).

His parents bequeathed Waldemar Christian the Tåsinge at Funen. King Christian IV had 1639-1644 the local court Kærstrup (or Kærsgård ) to Valdemar ( Valdemar Castle ), remove the Waldemar Christian, however, has never been based. 1637 Waldemar Christian traveled with Hannibal Sehested to Brussels, France, Italy and England.

Repeatedly, he was sent by his father in the diplomatic mission to Sweden. For political reasons, Waldemar Christian should Irina (1627-1679), a daughter of the Russian Czar Michael I. married. Shortly after New Year's Day 1644 came Waldemar Christian in Moscow. He was received with great pomp. However, Waldemar Christian refused, as required by the Tsar convert to the Russian Orthodox Church. The wedding did not take place. Waldemar Christian was fixed and a half years in Russia. Only after the death of Michael in July 1645 he was able to return to Denmark.
