Valentin Thalhofer

Thal Valentin Hofer ( born January 20, 1825 Under Roth / Swabia, † September 17, 1891 in Under Roth / Schwaben) was professor of pastoral theology at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich and Domdekan and provost in Eichstätt.

Life

After graduating from college in Dillingen 1843 Valentin Thalhofer studied philosophy and theology, first at the Lyceum in Dillingen and then at the University of Munich, where he was since 1845 alumnus at the ducal Georgianum. With its processing of the task Price 1847 provided by the Faculty of Theology Valentine Thalhofer in 1848 received his doctorate at the University of Munich as a doctor of theology. Shortly thereafter, he was ordained a priest and got a job as a prefect at the seminary in Dillingen.

This was followed in 1850 was appointed professor of biblical studies at the Lyceum in Dillingen. In 1863 he became director of the Georgianums and Professor of Pastoral Theology ( Liturgical Studies ) at the University of Munich. As a result of faculty internal disputes after the First Vatican Council (1869 /70) Valentin Thalhofer decided to departure from Munich. At his request for a transfer back in 1877 he received the post of dean in Eichstätt and also became professor of liturgy at the local Lyceum appointed. Since 1886 he was provost in Eichstätt.

In the years 1860-1863 was Valentin Thalhofer editor of Augsburg Pastoral sheet and 1869-1888 editor of the Library of the Fathers of the Church. In 1869 he was a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies.

  • The bloodless sacrifices of the Mosaic Cultes, its liturgy, its symbolic- typical and dogmatic significance. One in 1847 to Munich, crowned by the theological faculty of the Royal Ludwigs- Maximilians- University Prize Essay, Regensburg 1848.
  • The victims teaching of Hebrews and the Catholic doctrine of the Holy. Sacrifice of the Mass, Dillingen 1854/55.
  • Contributions to a History of Aftermysticismus and in particular the Irvingism in the bishopric of Augsburg. At the same time an answer to Mr. JE Georg Lutz, pastor at Upper Roth, Regensburg 1857.
  • Explanation of the Psalms, with special reference to their liturgical use in the Roman Breviary, Missal, Pontifical and rituals. In addition to an appendix, containing the Declaration of the Roman Breviary occurring Old and New Testament canticles, Regensburg 1857, 5th edition 1889 ( 7th edition 19047, Edit v.
