Valerius Gratus

Valerius Gratus was the fourth Roman Prefect of Judea. His term lasted eleven years ( 15 to 26 AD). He was the successor of Annius Rufus and was replaced by Pontius Pilate.

Among his most famous decisions as prefect of Judea was the dismissal of three Jewish High Priest of the Temple of Jerusalem. In the year 18 AD he appointed for this position Josephus Caiaphas (also called Caiaphas or Caiaphas ).
