Valser valley

The Vals Valley is located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Originally the valley was only called Vals.

Geography

The approximately 16 km Vals Valley is a side valley of the Val Lumnezia and branches at Uors - Peiden in a southerly direction from the main valley. At the far end of the valley lies the Zervreilasee. It is drained by the Rhine Vals. Apart from Vals, the village Tersnaus and the hamlet of St. Martin there are no towns.

Settlement history

The population of the Valsertal lives dispersed in hamlets and the village of Vals at 1254 m altitude. It is a Walser German speaking enclave; in the neighboring Val Lumnezia Romansh is spoken.

By isolated finds from the Bronze Age can be shown that the valley was used at least as a link between the Misox and the Rhine Valley. It has been inhabited since the 12th century, the population was under the Lower Court in sagogn. The rights to the high jurisdiction lay with the barons of Belmont. Tourism

The Therme Vals is the only thermal spring in Graubünden, which comes straight from the ground. In the lower part of the valley is Peiden bath, a former thermal baths.
