The Valsesia is an alpine valley in the province of Vercelli, Piedmont. Through the valley of the river Sesia, which gives the valley its name flows. It extends from the Monte Rosa massif to the plains of Vercelli and has several side valleys, mountain streams which flow into the Sesia.

Geography

The main valley called Val Grande, has an S-shape. The last church in this valley is Alagna. The most important valleys are the Mastallone Val and Val Sermenza which get their name from the mountain streams which flow through them.

Among the communities in Varallo Sesia Valsesia include, Borgosesia, Gattinara, Scopello, Alagna, Quarona, Fobello, Rimella, Rima San Giuseppe, Rimasco, Boccioleto, Rossa, Carcoforo, Romagnano Sesia, Vocca, Balmuccia, Scopa, Campertogno Piode, Cravagliana and Serravalle Sesia.

Economy

There are some industries in low-lying places Varallo, Borgosesia, Quarona and Serravalle. These are mainly textile industry and precision engineering companies. Agriculture is also operated, known here is the wine from the place Gattinara, which also bears this name. The higher places live mainly handicrafts and tourism, with both hikers in summer and skiers in winter to be addressed. On the north side of the valley extend several stages of the 55 -day long-distance route Traversata Grande delle Alpi.
