Vampula

Vampula is a former municipality with around 1,700 inhabitants in south-western Finland. It is located about 70 km north of Turku in the landscape Satakunta. The beginning of 2009 Vampula was incorporated into the neighbor municipality Huittinen.

The church was built in 1867 formed in the course of municipal reform from parts of the community Huittinen and includes the villages Hanhikoski, Harjunkylä, Honko, Horna, Huhtaa, Kotaja, Kukonharja, Kärväselä, Matkusjoki, Murto, Punola, Riittiö, Rutava, Sallila, Salmenoja, Siivikkala, Soinila, Soinilan Metsäkulma, Tamare, Pikku - Vampula and Vehka - Alho. The wooden church of Vampula was built in 1894 according to plans by H. Rancken; the oldest testified earlier building on the site is attested around 1590.

Vampula is rural and extends on both sides of the river Loimijoki. Only about half of the municipal area is wooded, 62 km ² is agricultural land. Like many rural communities in Finland is Vampula affected by an ongoing rural depopulation for decades; Since 1950, the population has more than halved.

Since 1990 Vampula maintains a partnership for community Käina in Estonia.
