Huittinen

Huittinen (Swedish Vitti's ) is a town with 10,618 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in south-western Finland. It lies about halfway between the cities of Tampere and Turku in the landscape Satakunta. Huittinen is exclusively Finnish speakers.

History

Huittinen exists as a municipality since 1868, since 1977 it has city status. Capital is the settlement Lauttakylä, also belong to the municipality of the parish village Huittinen well as the places Hannula, Hirvelä, Huittistenkylä, Huhtamo Hurula, Kaharila, Kannila, Karhiniemi, Korkeakoski, Leppäkoski, Loima, Löysälä, Matikkala, Mauriala, Mommola, Naatula, Nanhia, Palojoki, Pöyriälä, Raijala, Raskala, Rieskala, Riesola, Sampu, Sorvola, Suttila and Suontausta.

The Church of Huittinen dates from around 1500, but has since been expanded several times. 1860, the original single-nave church was refurbished to a cruciform church.

At the beginning of 2009, the neighboring community Vampula was incorporated in Huittinen.

Transport and the economy

Huittinen is significant as a transportation hub in Southwest Finland; Here too, the main streets of Helsinki to Pori and cross from Tampere to Rauma.
