Vanity Fare

Vanity Fare are a British pop band, who were in the late 1960s in Europe and the U.S. is very popular and especially with the million seller " Hitchin 'A Ride" gained cult status.

Was founded the group in the summer of 1968 in Rochester, Kent. With their harmonious vocals, the melodious sounds and the play on words with which they William Makepeace Thackeray's novel entitled " Vanity Fair " ( German: " Vanity Fair " ) abwandelten to their same -sounding band names ( Fare can fare, passenger or something that brings joy, mean ), they quickly became known in the UK and European pop scene.

They had their first hit in August 1968 with "I Live For The Sun" (UK number 20 ). In the summer of 1969, "Early in the Morning " brought it to number 8 in the UK charts, and in December of the same year the band managed to " Hitchin 'A Ride" an even greater success: the single was released in the UK "only " on No. 16, reached in March 1970 but also # 5 on the U.S. charts and got gold records throughout Europe. In the U.S., the song was twenty-three weeks in the charts, triggering especially at the hippies of the West Coast with the " Hitch- Hike- dance " true storms of applause.

This was followed by a large number of other successful titles that have been specifically well-known in England. In the U.S., there was extensive touring, among others with the Beach Boys and many other pop greats such as The Mamas and the Papas.

Then it was to Vanity Fare very quiet. For several years, however, they play especially at oldie nights and parties its still popular hits. However, of the original members is no longer there.
