Vansbrosimningen

Vansbrosimningen is taking place yearly competition in long-distance swimming in Sweden.

The swimming competition is in the Vansbro kommun held since 1950. The participants put it back 3,000 meters - 2,000 of them in Vanån with the water running and 1,000 meters in Västerdal against the river current. 1972 Vansbrosimningen became part of the " Swedish classic", the combination of four long-distance competitions in various sports in Sweden.

History

The Vansbrosimningen started then with ten participants and has not yet been organized as a competition. In 1956, times were with a group of participants from all over Sweden, held and determines the winner of swimming. The winners were Göran Åberg, ( Örebro SS, time 42:34 minutes) and Elsa By ( SS Falu 56:32 minutes). 1964 reached the first and so far only time a participant in the absolute best time. Margareta Rylander won by a margin of twelve seconds ahead of the fastest participants, their time was 40:28 minutes. In 1968 Erkki Hänninen from Finland for the first time a foreigner.

More competitions during the Vansbrosimningen are

  • From 1992, the Tjejsimmet (ladies), distance 1000 meters
  • From 1998, the Lilla Vansbrosimningen for children
  • From 2000, the Kortsimmet, distance 1000 meters
  • From 2007 at the Halvsimmet

The Halvsimmet is for the " Klassikerhalvan " conducted in which participants cover half the lines of the Swedish classic.
