Vaporetto

With Vaporetto which used for public transport in Venice and the Lagoon of Venice vessels are called. The original meaning of the word is " Dampfschiffchen ", but today are ships with diesel engines in operation. Operator of the vaporetto is the company ACTV SpA (Azienda del consorzio trasporti veneziano ), the majority is owned by the city.

Area

The vaporetto including through the Grand Canal, Venice's main waterway, as well as to the surrounding islands such as Murano and the Lido. Smaller Vaporetti who operate the lines 3, 5.1, 5.2, 4.1, 4.2 and 6, also referred to as Motoscafi.

Tourist information

There are tickets in combination with a bus ride from Marco Polo airport and cards with validity periods of 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 hours or seven days, that also has to use the buses on the Lido and the city traffic of Venice - Mestre. Carriage of a piece of luggage with a total edge length of 150 inches (length width height) is included in the fare. Some lines (eg, 3 and 4) do not go to all stations and are therefore much faster. The journey leads over the Lido past the island of San Michele and takes about 40 minutes.

Traffic situation

Due to the high volume of traffic on the waterways of Venice, vaporetto are not without controversy. On August 17, 2013, came by a collision of a vaporetto with a gondola to a fatal accident.
