Varna Archaeological Museum

The Varna Archaeological Museum (Bulgarian: Варненски археологически музей, transcription: Warnenski archeologitcheski Musej ) is an archaeological museum in the city of Varna on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The traditional museum, which is one of the oldest museums in Bulgaria, was founded in 1887 by brothers Herman and Karel Škorpil.

Exhibitions

Among the most spectacular artifacts include, among others, originating from the Copper Age gold offerings from the cemetery of Varna in the west of the city, where the world's oldest discovered so far worked gold was found in 1972, which has been dated to 4600-4200 BC. This unique European Varna culture that was advanced in the Copper Age technically so that they could win and edit Gold, named after its place of discovery.

  • Room 1: Paleolithic ( Old Stone Age ) and Mesolithic ( Middle Stone Age ) to the 8th millennium BC
  • Room 2: Eneolithic ( Copper Age ): 5th millennium and second half of the 5th century BC
  • Room 3: Thracian Art: 3200 BC to 500 BC
  • Room 4-7: Copper Temporal necropolis of Varna: 4400-4200 BC

Antiquity

  • Room 8: Foundation of History Odesos: 6th to 4th century BC
  • Room 9: Odesos during the Hellenistic period: mid-4th century BC to mid 1st century BC
  • Room 10-12: Religion and burial rituals: 1st to 4th century
  • Room 13: Jewellery: 4th to 6th century
  • Room 14 and 15: Odesos during the Roman period: 1st to 3rd century
  • Room 16: Ancient Art: 5th century BC to 3rd century AD
  • Room 17: Odesos and its surroundings in Late Antiquity: the 4th to the 7th century
  • Room 18: the early Christian Odesos: 4th to the 7th century

Middle Ages
